Marma's Cairn Terriers
Picture

*Champion Higgin's Checkov - Our Stud Dog - Pick-up riding dog - and chief smiley dog! He had gotten darker as he got older, from red wheaten to a dark steel grey.
Checkov passed away just short of his 12th birthday on 11-5-2021. He leaves his legacy with us in his daughter Dulci, Stella, son, Darby, granddaughters, Sucha, and Willow. There are many others of his offspring around the country and in South America. Two daughters are currently Therapy Dogs.

Marma’s Cairn Terriers will have puppies arriving in late Winter, and Spring 2023. I AM TAKING DEPOSITS on puppies born December 29th, 2022, and Jan 21, 2023. The price of our puppies will be $2,000 for Companion Dogs, and Show/Breeding select puppies will be $2500+. We are responsible breeders, certainly NOT a puppy mill, and all our females are on a healthy breeding schedule. We are overwhelmed with the number of people who are wanting puppies, and we try to answer inquiries as soon as possible, while still spending the time keeping our dogs healthy and happy. In our current world, "add to cart" does NOT get us a puppy! We appreciate your understanding – though patience is difficult, we understand.

Marma's Cohen Fontierman Carson
Carson is from Texas as part of a breeding stock trade. Sweet fella. He has recently been traded to June Bug Puppies in Nebraska for Prairie Hill Rags, 1/2 brother to Ch. Higgin's Checkov. Breeder trades are a way that each group can keep the genetic diversity healthy.

Black Magic Woman - or just Maggie! (her Granddaughters, Gussie and Dixie, remind us of Maggie)

Picture
Maggie loves lots of attention, and is a cuddler between my knees when I am at the computer. She is a wonderful mother and I was amazed to watch her teach Poppy, the pup, the proper manners about the tiny pups - just subtly and not with snarling and teeth! Such a great mother.
Picture
Maggie produces large litters and with Checkov as Dad, they are all black puppies! Reports are of the most adaptable and personable pups around!

Marma's Mighty Meena! Cricket's granddaughter. In January 2016 - Meena went to be a Service Dog for a man with PTSD! Great future for both of them!

Picture
Meena at 2 years old raised a nice litter of puppies from Tyson. She has small litters, but they are great Therapy Dog aptitude and super personality pups.

Meena and Tyson produced a nice litter of puppies in the fall of 2014 - all wheaton or reds.

Meena's mouse! She snatched it and ran away with it, then wouldn't let anyone else touch it!

I'm 2 months old and specialize is wagging my tail and being cute! Oh, and squeezing out of fences. I don't understand what the big deal is? : )

Marma's Emerald City Poppy
Poppy lives in Albany, retired and happy.

Picture
Poppy has grown up to be a very sweet and active dog. She is the first one to comfort me when I am sad. She is a great house dog, and was a dazzler with the judges when she was shown last year. She knew just what to do to captivate the judges!
Picture
Poppy and her siblings! Poppy is the dark female standing up with the green collar - but she also had two light brindle siblings. With Checkov as sire, she could throw a litter of anything! Will be fun to see what colors we get!
Picture
Poppy loves the children and will put up with just about ANYTHING they want to do. Here she is buckled in for a ride on Alaira's Barbie Jeep - the first of many rides, I'm sure.

                 Gator McGruff
              of Cairn Terrier Creek

Gator was a sweet dog that worked with Junior Handler, Caleb Bloedel. When show plans changed, he joined Bruns Cairns in Sedro Wooley, Washington, where he has many girlfriends, then moved to Texas to make new puppies with a whole new pack of girls. Breeder trades are a way that each group can keep the genetic diversity healthy.

********************************Cairn Terrier Creek Lizzy Bella
Lizzy went to be a companion for a family with an autistic boy. Lizzy was unaffected by the boy's behaviors, being a social as she is, but then we realized she was the therapy dog for the Mother who needed assistance in caring for her son.

Picture
I showed Lizzy in the Owner Handled Series at the Chintimini Kennel Club Show here in Albany in March 2015. She won her class, but we hope for more as she fills out and matures.

Lizzy "dog of a different color" keeps changing from shades of gold to red to .....
Picture
Lizzy joined us in February 2014 and has grown to be a lovely little lady - we call her the "dog of a different color" - she is so different than the other dogs. Lizzy was the best of our dogs at the first Earthdog Trial that we went to this spring.

Lizzy was a great camping companion last summer and the children all loved her and she was very quiet in camp, which is a must!

CHERRY - Checkov's little sister!

Picture
Cherry came to us directly from Arlene Long, in Minatare, Nebraska (the 4th dog we have purchased from her). Higgin's Cowboy is her father, and she is probably going to be a wheaton. We hope that she will grow up as spectacular as Checkov and earn her Championship - since she definitely has the personality plus, cockiness, and loving nature as her brother.

THERAPY DOG - CRICKET

Picture
Cricket came to us from Arlene Long, in Nebraska in Spring 2002. She has been the best Cairn Terrier we could have wanted and has served us well. Or have WE served her? I suppose it's a matter of opinion.
Cricket worked with me in our Adult Foster Home for Mentally Handicapped adults and was priceless for me as a guide to what my resident's needed, what their agressiveness level was (that Cricket understood and I didn't) and was their friend as well.
I took Cricket for training and testing and she was certified as a Registered Therapy Dog with Delta Society and we were able to take Cricket wherever the Foster Home residents needed to go, even into the hospital. When she was there, they were more comfortable and she helped us manage their care more completely with her help.
Cricket gave us several litters of puppies, then retired to watch over ME! for the rest of her life - as well as train the new puppies who come in the house being the best Granny Dog they could want. She teaches them good manners, social behaviors (like don't interrupt Granny Dog's nap).
As a hunter, Cricket is undaunted - even spending hours hunting mice in grass, squirrels in bushes, and chasing chipmunks around a campsite. Digging in soft soil can take hours and she will literally bury herself in the hole she digs.
Cricket is a neutral dog and will not go after a cat and rarely after another dog, except just to identify who he is.

Nap Time with Cricket (Granny)

Picture
Here are Sancha and Trisket taking a nap with Granny. Do we need a bigger bed? These two girls have left for their new homes now, so Granny can have the whole bed to herself.
